Governance
The Manitoba Trucking Association has a Board of Directors from whom the Executive Committee and the President (chief elected officer) are elected. The President normally serves a two year term. The Executive Committee consists of the President, 1st Vice-president, 2nd Vice-president, Immediate Past-president, Secretary and three Members-at-Large. The President and Executive Committee are accountable to the Board of Directors, which is accountable to the membership. The Association has approximately eleven committees that are accountable to the Board of Directors. The General Manager (chief staff executive) is accountable to the President, and the association staff members are accountable to the General Manager. Board members are elected annually and are not restricted as to the number of terms they may serve. Board members are nominated, as much as possible, with reference to the geographical divisions of the Province, and the classification of specialized carrier operations, in order that the Board of Directors is truly representative of the Province and the Industry as a whole.
The carrier segment of the M.T.A. membership comprises four categories which are:
- PSV (For Hire) Carrier, which is any firm, corporation or individual holding a valid Public Service Vehicle license in the Province of Manitoba or operating under reciprocity agreements under Manitoba law.
- City Transportation (City Cartage For Hire), which is any individual, firm or corporation operating under a Manitoba "T" licence and licenced from the City, Town or Corporation in which they have their place of business.
- Private Fleet, which is any licensee holding a Manitoba "CT" or "T" licence or any operator under reciprocity agreements within the Province of Manitoba.
- Household Goods Carrier (Mover), which is any individual, firm or corporation authorized for the transportation of household goods and personal effects.
